Company Introduction
In recent years, genomics research has received an increasing amount of attention. Many cutting-edge technologies, such as genome polymerase, nanotechnology, and high-performance computing, have been integrated into genome sequencing projects. Third-generation sequencing (TGS), also known as long-read sequencing, contributes to the advancement of agriculture, life science and medical science through single molecule real-time sequencing technology and high-resolution optical mapping techniques.
Demand for computing capabilities that match the unlimited potential of DNA research
NextOmics Biosciences, the first TGS service provider, has been working on TGS analysis for many years. Its comprehensive range of equipment and wealth of experience in providing high-quality and efficient genome assembly and analysis services have made it a worldwide leader in the field of TGS.
Genome sequencing projects involve constructing tens or even hundreds of thousands of genome sequencing models, which requires a great amount of computing and storage resources. In humans, each cell normally contains 23 pairs of chromosomes and 3.16 billion base pairs. 200 GB of data is generated when each nucleotide is sequenced 30 times by independent reads. It takes over 30 hours for a high-performance server to perform gene conversion, splicing, comparison and annotation. Executing potentially hundreds of thousands of genome sequencing tasks requires a great amount of network, storage and computing power as well as fast, reliable, and secure service response. Companies that choose to build, operate, and maintain data centers themselves will need to face technical challenges as under heavy financial and time pressures.
A high-performance E2E solution: making a breakthrough
To cope with the challenges,NextOmics Bioscience chose to collaborate with HUAWEI CLOUD. HUAWEI CLOUD provided NextOmics Bioscience with a high-performance E2E solution, covering computing, storage, networks, deployment and O&M.
As a major component of the solution, HUAWEI CLOUD provided bare metal servers with plenty of storage capacity and large-scale computing resource pools to accelerate the processing of genome sequencing raw data.
In response to user demand, HUAWEI CLOUD adopted Docker as well as AEM and FPGA heterogeneous computing technologies, resulting in 5- to 10-fold improvements in application performance.
Professional HUAWEI CLOUD engineer teams handle the IT operation and maintenance, which has helped NextOmics Bioscience reduce its IT O&M costs by 30%.
Cooperation between HUAWEI CLOUD and NextOmics Bioscience: playing to each party's strengths
The cooperation between NextOmics Bioscience and HUAWEI CLOUD integrates quality resources to improve competitiveness, and clearly benefits both parties in terms of business and market development. This collaboration is blazing a trail in the application of information technology to the TGS field, bringing us one step closer to understanding life's mysteries.
