Getting Started with Huawei Cloud CDN

Enable CDN Show

Enable CDN before you use it.

Procedure

1. Log in to the Huawei Cloud console. Choose Service List > Storage > CDN.
2. Choose to be billed by traffic or peak bandwidth and enable CDN as prompted

3. Log in to the CDN console again.

Notes

• When enabling CDN, traffic-based billing is selected for V0 and V1 customers by default. You can select a bandwidth-based billing as required.
• Before using CDN, ensure that your account balance is sufficient or you have purchased a traffic package.

Add Domain Name Show

If you want to use CDN to accelerate your business, add the domain name of your site to CDN. CDN caches origin content on edge nodes so that your content loads faster.

Procedure

Before adding a domain name, ensure that the domain name complies with the requirements described in Domain Name Requirements.
1. Log in to the Huawei Cloud console. Choose Service List > Storage > CDN.
2. In the navigation pane, choose Domains.
3. On the Domains page, click Add Domain Name. In the dialog box displayed, specify domain parameters.

4. Click OK.
5. Check whether the retrieval host needs to be modified. If it does, configure the retrieval host by referring to Retrieval Host.

Notes

After a domain name is added, the default retrieval host will be the domain name. Change the retrieval host in a timely fashion if either of the following conditions is met:
• If you select Domain name for Origin Server Address and enter the domain name of an object storage bucket, set the retrieval host to the domain name of the object storage bucket.
• If you want CDN to pull content from a custom domain name, specify the retrieval host.
For example, suppose an origin server is bound to two sites, www.origin01.com and www.origin02.com, and the domain name connected to CDN is www.example01.com. If you need CDN to retrieve content from www.origin02.com, you would need to set the retrieval host to www.origin02.com.

Configure CNAME Show

If you have added a domain name, the system automatically assigns a CNAME record to it. The CNAME record cannot be accessed directly. You must add the CNAME record to your domain's DNS records. Then requests for your domain name will be redirected to CDN nodes for acceleration.

Procedure

If your domain name is resolved using the DNS service Huawei Cloud provides, then follow the steps to add a CNAME record.
1. Log in to the Huawei Cloud console. On the management console, choose Service List > Storage > CDN.
2. In the navigation pane, choose Public Zones.
The public zone list is displayed.
3. Click the domain name you want to add a record set to.
4. Click Add Record Set in the upper right corner.
5. Configure the parameters as instructed.
6. Click OK.

Check CNAME Record Show

The length of time before the CNAME record takes effect depends on the DNS provider. Check whether the CNAME record has taken effect.

Procedure

Open the command line interface that comes with Windows and run the following command:
nslookup -qt=cname Acceleration domain name
If the CNAME record is displayed, the CNAME record has taken effect. A typical command output is shown in the following figure.

Now CDN acceleration has been enabled. For details about more settings, see Domain Name Settings.

Prefetch & Purge Cache Show

Prefetch content to CDN nodes before key events and purge content to force CDN to request a new version of the content so end users can get the latest content.

Purge

After you submit a cache refreshing request, cached content on CDN nodes will be forcibly expired. If a user requests that content, CDN will have to retrieve fresh content from the origin server and then cache that new content.

Typical Scenarios
New content release: After new content overwrites old content with the same name on origin servers, to enable all users to access the latest content, you can submit requests to refresh corresponding URLs or directories of the content, forcing the cached content on the nodes to expire.
Non-compliant content clearing: When non-compliant content is detected and deleted from origin servers, the cached content on nodes can still be accessed. You can refresh URLs to delete the cached content.

Prefetch

After you submit a cache preheating request, the origin server proactively sends the most current content to a CDN node to be cached. If a user requests the content, the CDN node immediately returns the cached content. It does not need to retrieve any new content.

Typical Scenarios
Initial access: When you connect a domain name to CDN for the first time, you can preheat large files including videos to improve user experience.
Installation package release: Before releasing a software installation package or upgrade package, you can preheat the content to the globally distributed CDN nodes. After the software or upgrade is launched, the CDN nodes directly respond to the download requests of a large number of users, which improves the download speed and greatly reduces the pressure on your origin server.
Promotional activity: Before releasing a promotional campaign, you can preheat the static content involved on the activity page to CDN nodes. After the activity starts, the CDN nodes respond to user requests for accessing all static content, which ensures service availability and improves user experience.
