Huawei Cloud is the Only Asian Vendor Recognized in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Cloud Application Platforms
Nov 19, 2024
Recently, Gartner® released its first-ever Magic Quadrant for Cloud Application Platforms report, with Huawei recognized in the quadrant for its application runtime platform, and is also the only vendor named in Asian.
According to the research:"Gartner defines cloud application platforms as those that provide managed application runtime environments for applications and integrated capabilities to manage the life cycle of an application or application component. They typically enable distributed application deployments and support cloud-style operations — such as elasticity, multitenancy and self-service — without requiring infrastructure provisioning or container management."
Huawei Cloud CAP includes ServiceStage, Cloud Application Engine (CAE), and Cloud Service Engine (CSE). These offerings provide development and runtime environments for web applications, microservices, containers, and more. By platformizing application runtime engineering capabilities, including automated delivery, dark launch, service governance, high-reliability operations, and auto scaling, Huawei Cloud provides out-of-the-box application runtime platforms that shield technical complexity, speeding up application development, build, and deployment. This allows enterprises to leverage the cloud, focus on business development, and accelerate innovation.
Huawei Cloud CAP is built around three pillars: extreme development and operational efficiency, resource cost optimization based on application experience, and business continuity assurance. It always offers competitive products and services:
· Extreme development and operational efficiency: CAP provides fully managed application runtime environments, automates resource management and application deployment, and automatically integrates with application observability. All these improve development and maintenance efficiency by up to 30%.
· Resource cost optimization: Resource scheduling has been optimized to enhance application experience and maximize resource utilization. With various resource scheduling policies, such as service metric-based auto scaling, scheduled auto scaling, and automatic optimization of application resources, CAP addresses diverse business scenarios, reducing costs by boosting resource utilization by 10%-30%.
· Business continuity assurance: The platform ensures quality assurance across dimensions like reliability, security, and resilience through best practices embedded within. With high-available architecture management (intra-city active-active, remote disaster recovery, and cell), service resilience (circuit breakers, degradation, and rate limiting), and dark launch, the overall system availability can reach five nines (99.999%).
Huawei Cloud CAP has been successfully implemented in multiple industries, including finance, automotive, government affairs, energy, manufacturing, and internet, helping enterprises efficiently host and operate their applications in the cloud.
· In the finance sector, enterprises can migrate their core systems to the cloud using Huawei Cloud CAP. Without any code modification, these applications can be deployed on the platform for a distributed and high-availability architecture deployments, meeting compliance and regulatory requirements. Additionally, automated deployment and dark launch enable online version updates with a cycle reduced from monthly to weekly, enabling agile responses to market changes and business innovation demands and bringing a 50%+ increase in operational efficiency.
· In the government sector, application vendors managing and maintaining applications via virtual machines often face low resource utilization rates and complex deployment and maintenance challenges. By migrating applications to CAP, where resources are managed and automatically optimized by the platform, standard framework-developed applications can be containerized and automatically integrated with observability features. CAP offers one-stop application hosting. This approach upgrades a government service system's architecture and hosts applications on the cloud, achieving a 20% boost in resource utilization, significantly reducing the workload for application vendors in management and maintenance, shortening application deployment cycles to one-third of the original time, and increasing operational efficiency by 30%.
· In the automotive industry, vehicle apps, online marketing, and car networking systems require services support 24/7. They face intense market competition, necessitating rapid and frequent online deployments. Frequent traffic surges due to in-service changes or business triggers often lead to service disruptions. Using Huawei Cloud CAP's end-to-end dark launch and service resilience governance (circuit breakers and degradation), version updates can be implemented with zero faults, reducing average time needed for changes by 50% and effectively enhancing system reliability.
Looking ahead, as digital transformation continues, Huawei Cloud CAP will continue to research new technologies, optimize product services, and enhance user experience, integrating innovative technologies and AI capabilities to create a highly simplified, elastic, and intelligent application runtime platform. This will cater to diverse cloud scenarios and needs across industries, helping customers quickly build and run applications in the cloud, drive faster innovation, and generate more value.
