Huawei Cloud Signed MoU with Cyberport to Drive AI and Web3 Industry Development in Hong Kong

On 7th February, Huawei Cloud signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cyberport to develop a collaborative framework of industry cloud innovation and technology industry chain to promote digitization and facilitate innovation and technology (I&T) ecosystem in Hong Kong(China), also to explore the opportunity to develop a collaborative innovation hub and industry enabling platform for AI and Web3. Cyberport and Huawei Cloud will explore the opportunity to build a "Web3 Industry Cloud" platform and technology chain to provide a robust infrastructure for local technology start-ups and accelerate the popularization of cutting-edge technologies as well as to nurture talents, assist enterprises in transformation and support industry development.

The MoU was signed by Peter Yan, CEO of Cyberport and Jason Zhang, Managing Director of Huawei Cloud Hong Kong, in the presence of Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport, Jacqueline Shi, Vice President of Huawei Cloud Computing and Denny Deng, CEO of Huawei International Co. Ltd.

Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said, "Cloud technology is a key area for global technological advancement, as it enables cross-region and cross-sector collaboration among partners worldwide. The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Huawei Cloud and Cyberport aims to foster a joint effort in promoting talent development and supporting start-ups, thereby driving digital transformation and providing robust backing for Hong Kong's digital economy development and developing Hong Kong into a smart city. Through this collaboration with Huawei, I believe that Hong Kong and Cyberport can harness their respective strengths to expand presence in the wide cloud business landscape."

Huawei Cloud and Cyberport are collaborating to establish an AI and Web3 industry innovation and empowerment platform, which will bring together leading industry partners, speed up the adoption of the technology in sectors such as smart city, retail and fintech, and support the growth of Hong Kong’s start-ups with technology, business, and talent. It will also attract top technology companies to establish a global business centre in Hong Kong. Huawei Cloud will also continue to support the development of start-ups and cultivate regional unicorn companies. In the past 18 months, Huawei Cloud has helped over 30 start-ups get Series A financing, with a total amount exceeding US$100 million.

With the support of Cyberport, Huawei Cloud successfully held a series of events such as "TechWave Web3 Day" and "Software Partners Go Global Summit", and launched the “Go Hong Kong, Go Global scheme” for the Asia-Pacific region, providing enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region with US$10 million in dedicated start-up funding and related services.

Since 2018, Huawei Cloud has established four data centre nodes in Hong Kong, making it one of the cloud vendors with the most data centre nodes locally. In the near future, the Ascend AI cloud service will also launch in Hong Kong, further providing large-scale, low-cost, and efficient intelligent computing power.

Huawei Cloud will continue to work in line with its “Everything as a Service” strategy, leveraging its own advantages and connecting customers, partners and innovators to promote collaboration among industry, academic, research and users, so as to jointly enhance Hong Kong’s start-up ecosystem, share development opportunities of Web3 and AI across various sectors and inject new impetus into Hong Kong’s I&T development.
