On March 23, 2018, the U.S. Congress enacted the CLOUD Act (which clarifies permissions related to using data stored outside the U.S.) to resolve data disputes caused by cross-border law enforcement requests in recent years. This law makes it easier for U.S. law enforcement to collect emails and other personal information stored outside the U.S.
