About Wuhan Kengee

Founded in 2005, Kengee is engaged in the production, processing, and R&D of baked goods. The enterprise includes a central bakery, distribution systems, in-store sales, baking education, and even furniture manufacturing. At present, they have over 300 retail outlets spread across Hubei, Hunan, Henan, Anhui, Hebei and Guangxi. At these stores they sell fresh, delicious baked goods and provide warm and friendly customer service.

Challenges

"With 30 stores, there's plenty of profit, but with 50 stores, there's plenty of losses." Almost every retail chain has faced this frustrating dilemma.

There is a critical point that many enterprises have to go through when expanding. When an enterprise starts to rapidly expand, however, ambitions start to expand too. Too many startups fall into this trap. At this critical juncture, if they respond correctly, they can step into a whole new world of success, but if they handle it poorly, it can be a disaster.

Kengee CEO, Yang Qingjua stated, "Over the past 10 years, new Kengee retail outlets have been opening up rapidly, but our management systems have been pushed to their limits." Yang decided to slow down expansion and wait for the back-end systems to catch up, "The central kitchen, our staffing, and logistics and warehousing systems on the back end have been unable to keep pace with the expansion of the stores. It is dangerous for us to keep expanding at this point. "

Twin Group needed:

  • Security: Their Hybris e-commerce platform needs to support high-volume access from a public network, which means there are security challenges to consider.
  • O2O connectivity: In the early stages, a development and testing system is deployed on the cloud, but production is deployed offline, so the solution must connect online and offline systems.
  • Efficiency: Basic resources need to be quickly deployed and service systems need to be quickly updated to meet expansion requirements.
  • Service innovation: Baked goods have a shelf life of only about three days, so waste is a big issue. Currently, Kengee has stores throughout the country, but with HUAWEI CLOUD EI sales forecasting and precise customer positioning, Kengee can leverage intelligent logistics to reduce waste.

There must be highly qualified personnel, project managers, architects, implementation engineers, and project members all available, depending on project requirements.

Project risks must be identified and risk mitigation measures provided. There must be expertise available to help improve system performance.

    Solution

The local environment is connected to HUAWEI CLOUD through a VPN. Local users can use private IP addresses to access the ERP environment in the cloud and interact with other local service systems.

The SAP application and database are deployed on different production systems to ensure higher availability. Different modules can be expanded if needed to improve system flexibility.

Users can use security groups to manage Internet and internal network access.

The ASCS on the application server can be automatically deployed on different hosts based on the anti-affinity rules configured on the HUAWEI CLOUD or they can be deployed across AZs.

The HANA database uses synchronous replication for higher availability. You can deploy the HANA database on different host machines or across AZs.

A cross-region or enterprise DR can be selected. The enterprise keeps a copy of data locally so if a cloud service is terminated, the local application can be started immediately.

    Benefits

The SAP S/4 system was migrated to the cloud to support the rapid expansion and more refined management of retail outlets throughout China.

    Quick Deployment

Traditional deployment usually takes 2-3 months, which can significantly slow down an entire project. But with HUAWEI CLOUD, the environment can be provisioned and the project deployed within a single day, and the O&M is more than 30% more efficient.

    Security

Their Hybris e-commerce platform needs to support high-volume access from a public network, which means there are security challenges to consider. HUAWEI CLOUD designed an SAP security solution for Kengee to ensure their system and their data would remain secure.

The production system is deployed in its own data center, but they plan to deploy the local SAP production and DR system on HUAWEI CLOUD. HUAWEI CLOUD provided Kengee with a reliable platform, including industry-leading servers, the world's fastest appliances, and an all-flash storage system for large-scale databases and high-performance computing.

    Intelligent Decision-making

In the retail industry represented by Kengee, refined management is required throughout the entire process. Decision-making is not something you can just rely on your instincts for. You need a more scientific decision-making process backed up big data analysis. More and more enterprises are using AI technology to predict sales. HUAWEI CLOUD EI helps enterprises make more intelligent decisions. For Kengee Foods, HUAWEI CLOUD EI means business success.
